In 1988, Ellen and Eric Gil opened a 450-square-foot sock boutique called Sockshop and Shoe Company. That modest store has now become an iconic cornerstone of downtown Santa Cruz.

In 2007, after nineteen years in retail, the Gils used their extensive industry knowledge to create Socksmith Design. a sock design company focused on new, fun and novel graphics, made from high quality materials, by cutting edge manufacturing. This combination was a missing link within the industry, and Gils teamed up with a friend, Cassandra Aaron, to create this unique brand with a West Coast point of view.

Our hometown of Santa Cruz, California is the source of our inspiration with its prominent culture that values ​​creativity, independence, and community. Lovingly designed by in-house artists, Socksmith socks combine high-quality designs and materials, designed to suit all tastes, lifestyles and smiles.

After over a decade in business, Ellen, Eric and Cassandra continue to take Socksmith Design to new heights. The goal remains the same: to offer the best creative and innovative designs for sock lovers around the world, always with excellent customer service and uncompromising quality.
